Rogue Angel-A Joyfully Recommended Title!!

As a child, Appolion was dragged into Hell when his parents sided with Lucifer during his attempt to take over Heaven. Abused for countless centuries before finally being exiled from Hell, Appolion wanders Earth, helping humankind but isolating himself from everyone and everything, even his angel siblings. Yet, Appolion won't be able to stay on the sidelines forever. He is the fated Destroyer, an angel of rare gifts and abilities, and part of the archangel Order of Four. Demons from Hell are out to destroy him and a power struggle in Heaven means justice angels are after Appolion as well. Constantly on the move, Appolion puts his faith in no one, until the one angel he can't resist catches up to him.

Ana, an angel enforcer, has spent the past three years tracking Appolion. The ex-justice angel is determined to bring Appolion back to Heaven and reunite him with the rest of the Order. But when Ana finally catches up with her troublesome assignment, desire more powerful than either could have imagined sparks between the two. As danger threatens Appolion, Ana, and those they hold dear, will the budding romance between the enforcer and the Destroyer survive?

Once again, Stephani Hecht has written a fantastic, exhilarating tale. Like the first two books in Ms. Hecht's Archangel series, Rogue Angel is a thrilling romantic read I could not put down. Rogue Angel picks up three years after the last book, Captive Angels, ends. The world Ms. Hecht created continues to develop as the war between demons and angels continues, even as the power struggles in Heaven escalate. While Appolion and Ana are the center of the story, the subplots and world building intertwine with the romance flawlessly.

A fast-paced, exciting read with endearing new characters and familiar characters I love more with every book, Rogue Angel did not disappoint. I liked Appolion and Ana before; I love them now. Their romance was, in a word, lovely to watch unfold and still makes me smile to think back on it. In addition, I was eager to learn more about supporting characters such as Cam, Bear, and Michael and was delighted to watch their storylines evolve. Ms. Hecht definitely kept me on my toes the entire book, seamlessly weaving twists I did not expect, but cannot wait to see how they develop as the series continues.

For those new to the Archangel series, there is just enough background information that the book can stand on its own. However, to gain a better understanding of the storyline as a whole (as the storyline flows from one book to the next), I would recommend reading Angel Warriors and Captive Angels first. I Joyfully Recommend Rogue Angel and I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment of Ms. Hecht's incredible Archangel series.

Riverstone is a fantastic artist that is able to portray a kind of idealistic, more perfect form of sensuality that seems more sensual than sensualism itself is in real life. In this way, his art and ideas are greater and more incredible even than any tangible form they might be made to represent. In other words: sexier than sex.

I would compare Riverstone to Masamune Shirow. They both have broken a psychic barrier of some kind.

This is very informative. It was an easy read, but it isn't something that I would have read if it wasn't for a class. It was full of useful maps and graphs. It is a very clear and straightforward book.

A concise look at Rome's History

Marcel Le Glay et al's History of Rome was the first History book on Rome I read. The book was relatively well written, and took an interesting look on Rome's decline. Unfortunately, it focused largely on the Leaders and the royal/imperial families of Rome; the book tended to focus more on their lives then on the Roman Empire's history itself. The section on Augustus was thorough and very interesting. The middle and end of the book were especially good, but the beginning lacked detail. There is an absence of information on this part of Rome's history, and the book tended to breifly talk about important events during those 500 years. The book's examination on the culture of the Roman Empire I find is much too succinct. For its brevity it was excellent; it is admirable that one can write such a tasteful book in such small space. If one wants a helpful guide to the entire history of Rome pick up this book.

I ordered this book for my undergraduate Roman history class before I realized what a piece of crap it was. Get Michael Grant's book instead, or Cary and Scullard's, old as it is. Anything else: I spend valuable time in class and outside it propping up this book because of its many defects. The text consists of a mishmash of poorly-organized subheadings, randomly-inserted series of bullet points and "feature" boxes. There is no sense of the big picture, which is so important for undergraduates, and no way of assessing which material is more important, and which is trivial (and there's a lot of trivial material in here.) One of my colleagues calls it "dog barf": a mix of subjects with no organization or overarching analysis. The writing is filled with phrases in quotation marks that have no sources cited -- exactly what I tell my students NOT to do in their papers. The translated French sentences with their long series of subclauses and odd syntax are difficult reading. The images are if possible even worse. The text refers to objects like the warrior of Capestrano as if everyone were expected to know what it was (why would they be taking Roman history if they did?) which are not illustrated. There is no map which shows where Dacia, Pannonia, or Germania are, all regions which are hugely important in understanding the empire. The periodically inserted plans of Rome (whose references reveal they are essentially xeroxed from other people's books) mark the outlined buildings with numbers, but nowhere is there a KEY. I can't believe the editors passed this thing twice. I'm going to scrutinize offerings from Blackwell much more carefully from now on.

It's growing on me!

The title says it all. When I first scanned this book, I was more than a little disappointed. I thought it spent way too much time discussing details of primitive things like hooking up the cables, programming the SD card, etc. And not near enough about the "good stuff" like programming in C and assembly language. Not even Python. I didn't expect a tutorial in C programming, but I had hoped for at least a mention of GNU, gcc, and gdb.

Disappointed, I set the book aside and set out to find out for myself, using Google and other books, the things I needed to know.

Not being a Linux person, I had a lot to learn. I could use the bash shell, but only enough to do primitive things. I wanted to personalize my Pi, setting it up with larger fonts and a good screen editor. I had flubbed my first pass through the setup program, raspi-config, and wanted another go. I spent a LOT of time in Google and in emails, hoping to find answers to my questions, but only found more questions.

But recently, I took another look at the book. Imagine my surprise to discover that it answered EVERY SINGLE ONE of the questions I'd amassed over the last few months. It wasn't a matter of the book not meeting my needs; it was a matter of the fact that I didn't even know what my needs were.

The first step in getting answers to any question is to know enough to ask it. On my first pass through the book, all those answers went right over my head. It's only been on the second reading that I've discovered just how helpful it is.

If you are already a Linux wizard, can speak grep and makefile in your sleep, and want to write the next killer app, this book is not for you. But if you're new to Linux, and want to make your Pi a more comfortable environment, I can't recommend it enough.

This book is dated. The Raspberry PI has seen a number of updates which have using the Pi for a measurement system interfacing to hardware using the SPI or I2C extremely difficult.

Please ask yourself this question before you purchase this book. What is your objective? If you are looking for a book to assist you to prepre for the ISTQB Foundation Exam, Yes, this is the one that you may consider. But if you are looking to explore the knowledgae and software testing skill, this is not the right book. I used the book for the former.

Yes, I passed my ISTQB Exam using this book, just this book and nothing else. Prior to the preparation of the Exam, I have little background in this subject and I must say that this book is all you need. I have gone through the first 6 chapters 3 rounds, simply over a period of 2 weeks before the Exam, I passed with a score of 31/40. Not fantastic, considering on a self learning basis, this is a good achievement.

Do take note: The questions available at the end of each chapter, can only be used as a reference to assess your readiness. The actual exam questions are different, and it is much more difficult.

Value for money; all you need to pass!

Such a good book! The book tells you that this is all you need to pass the exam - and I for one am proof of this. I was already an IT professional in the QA sector, but this and the followup book provided me with the knowledge I needed to achieve a good pass in Foundation and later Intermediate. I have since recommended to several colleagues who have all thanked me for saving them money and giving advice they found helpful.

The book is designed to give you a good grounding in testing knowledge and basics, and guides you through the sections of the Foundation exam very well. If you have testing experience so far, this book will cement the principles that you probably already know about, if you realise it or not. It'll introduce new ones, or aspects you haven't thought of (yet!).

If you are IT minded and want to get into Quality Assurance, this is a fantastic step forward. Couple this with the correct IT skills(paid for or self taught) and market yourself as a newbie. If you are lucky enough to get an interview, but can blow them way with your QA knowledge then you'll have your foot in the door. A QA Certification does not make you a professional; the drive for professional development, learning new skills and being at an appropriate level for the job you are applying for makes you a professional.

Pay for this book, the exam, get the free Syllabus PDF. Study your little heart out for a few weeks coming up to the exam. Job done!

Fantastic book for any tester/test manager

I bought this book out of curiosity and I am glad that I did purchase the book (Kindle version). This book wass worth reading. Anyone having some sort of SDLC background should understand the storyline captured by this book and use it in real life. This book is, however, NOT for someone who wants to become a tester. This book will definitely help someone having some sort of SDLC knowledge pass ISTQB Foundation exam.

I enjoyed it and I believe it's a good book for people hoping to get ISTQB certified.

So-so content-badly overpriced for what you get

In terms of what you get, the content is all right, but there are far more books out about body-weight fitness that give more material for much less:

I just chose the five that I had, but note that all of them are much less than Furey's book, and all of them give at least as much (and usually much more) than Furey's book. They all do so without the snake-oil-salesman barker style that Furey seems unable to write without. The absolute best book on bodyweight exercises would probably be Ross Enamait's stuff (see rosstraining.com), who writes in a combination of styles (think Tony Horton crossed with Pavel Tsatsouline) but still sells his books, which are encyclopedic references of body weight exercises, for much less than Furey.

Furey is also a tireless self-promoter, which can be irritating.

The problem Gotch has with Furey is that Furey makes money off Gotch's name without permission, which is not respectful in the slightest. Gotch has also noted that Furey knows very little about very much other than snake-oil marketing and self-promotion. I myself have no idea who is right in that conflict, but that's the source of it.

In summary, the book has decent body weight information in a very expensive package, and there are better guides out there for body weight training. If you can get it on sale for $6 as another reader did, than I would say it's worth it. If you're paying any more than $9, there are better guides out there for around the same price.

Results that speak for themselves

I have read all the love/hate posts about Furey on various websites, and for some reason there seems to be a ton of controversy about this guy, much of it dealing with his credentials, Karl Gotch's opinion of him, and the price of his books and vids

With all that said, I should point out that I found this in a used bookstore for $6 bucks, and knew nothing about Furey at the time. The book just looked like a good collection of bodyweight exercises with good, large photos and good, basic instructions.

I should point out that I have a background in amateur boxing in my teens and twenties, and have been doing various martial arts up to the present, at 50 years old. My routine has usually included some running, stretching, bag work and weights, and although I've stayed in great shape for my age, I've always had problems with back soreness after weights, and despite having good cardio, I tended to gas out during intense grappling sessions. I started making the shift to bodyweight exercises based on this book, Hatmakers conditioning book, and Get Tough by Tom Fitzgerald. The results have been dramatic.

After only two weeks of the Rope Skipping circuit in this book, I have noticed significant improvement in my cardio, "functional' strength, muscular endurance and speed. I have probably lost a few pounds, (I only weigh myself at checkups), and have more energy. The only modifications I have made to the program are to begin with a 15 minute rope skipping warmup, add some burpees and 8 count bodybuilder pushups, and a short stretch routine at the end. I plan to stick with this program, adding in new exercises as I progress, as well as adding bag work into the circuit.

I know these exercises have been around for a long time, and Furey did not invent any new, revolutionary system. But, the book is unique in that I have never seen a bodyweight book so simple, clearly laid out, and to the point. My only criticism would be that the exercises seem presented in random order, and I would have liked them to be grouped by style; pushup types, squat types, situps, inverted types, etc, as well as a complete list at the beginning or end. (There is no index). Also, surprisingly, there are no burpees, sprawl or plyo type moves going from standing to the floor. With that said, for what I paid and got out of the book, it has been amazing. I made my own compiled list, based on the index of the Hatmaker book, and I just use that for reference now. I haven't been in such good shape in decades, and I work out daily.

As for Karl Gotch, well, shame on him. Furey has had nothing but good things to say about him, and if Karl has a problem with the guy, a simple, 'no comment' would suffice. But to tear down a guy who gives you nothing but praise and respect reflects more on Gotch's character than Furey's, in my opinion. As for Furey's conditioning, all I can say is that he demonstrates every exercise in the book, many of which I can't do.

Would I pay $40 for the book, probably not, but maybe, considering what you'd pay for a session with a personal trainer at a club. What I did get, for $6, is about 50 great moves, some great routines, and a strategy for staying in shape with nothing but my body, a jump rope, and a couple of bags.

A great book, if you are not a whiney girly man

I love to see the whiney complaints about Matt Furey's product, everything from price to nit picking meaningless drivel.

I have several of Matt Furey's products, the first one I ever used was Combat Conditioning. This was the program I turned to when I had reached over 260 pounds and wanted to lose weight. With a small change in diet and this book I lost my first 30 pounds in around 3 1/2 months.

I ended up trimming over 70 pounds in just over a year. I have since bought combat stretching, and have used it to relieve my back pain and other benefits. I have bought other copies of combat conditioning for friends and family as well and they have achieved results as well.

Those who are not willing to invest a measly 29 dollars on a book for their health are typically the same people that will spend much more than that on a magic pill because they are too lazy to do actual work. But keep submitting your bad reviews, cause there are more people out there like me who see right through them. People who know better because we actually used the product and achieved the only thing that matters. Results.

Matt Furey's stuff works, period. Hate him for being successful, charging too much, being weird, whatever you want to, meanwhile the rest of us who truly know how to spot value and act on it will continue to benefit from Matt's products.
