Great informative read

Chris Termeer's book "Fundamentals of Investing in Oil And Gas" has something for everyone from the seasoned oilman to the consumer who thinks that gasoline appears magically from the petrol nozzle. I thoroughly enjoyed each chapter of his book starting with his anecdotal coverage of the history of hydrocarbon usage in Chapter 1, which flows smoothly into his discussion of market evaluation in Chapter 2. Here he examines the effects of some of our recent political experiences in the Middle East and goes on to discuss in layman's terms some of the more technical aspects of market analysis, noting hiccups in the automotive industry that have influenced oil price. Chris's stimulating discussion of the industry includes how petroleum is found, drilled, extracted, pipe-lined, refined, along with descriptions of tools used to do all of these things as well as events that affect progress along the way. At the risk of repeating myself, I recommend Chris's book to anyone who has had a hand in finding, has or wants to invest in, or has ever used a petroleum product.

Very well written. I had no prior knowledge of the oil industry before I started reading and was surprised in the first few chapters as it reads like a story, which is a wonderful way set the stage for the more techinical subjects. I also found the detailed pictures and charts to be very helpful along with the 8.5x11 book size. The font size is also a good size, not to big nor small.

Soon after Pick happens on a discovery that could prove to be revolutionary, a menacing visitor is murdered and Mike realizes that the fossils may be worth killing for. Unfortunately, it takes a very long time for the mystery to kick in, and Hickam (Rocket Boys) reserves all the action for the story's climax. Great action packed murder mystery,love,cowboys cowgirls and digging up dino bones. Learn some Paleontology too!

Met Homer Hickam Jr at the 2011 Mars society convention in Grape Vine Texas. He was a guest speaker. I instantly liked him ... a real down to Earth guy.I bought and read his Torpedo Junction book...5 stars...see my review. I took a Paleontology course and wrote a paper on the evolution of the horse and have fossil collected in the Peace river Fl., finding many fossilized shark teeth and mammal fossilized bones. Donated my shark teeth collection to The Natural Museum of History ( Sweden) in Stockholm. So it was with great interest I bought The Dinosaur Hunter.

Homer Hickam has wrote a great book. Action packed from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down. Its a page burner 311 pages I read in 2/3s of a day. Remember this is a fictional novel so the "facts" discovered about the nest guarding instincts of the "T Rex", etc. are only supposition and have not been proven. Just go with the flow with this book. Don't try to analyze it; just enjoy it.

Homer is superb with character development. You really get to know the characters and how they think. You empathize with them. The book has a great plot. What could be better...Dino bone hunting,cowboys and cowgirls, a murder, a little sex thrown in ...nothing vulgar or graphic, plus the reader gets a chance to learn a little Paleontology.

I got to empathize so much with the characters I almost shed a tear when the main character Mike sees his girl friend and possible future soul mate Tanya murdered by a Russian mob thug by a bullet to the head with Mike watching.The Russian mob thugs are coming to steal the dinosaur bones and will kill all witnesses. Again great action, character development and a superb plot. A good mystery who done it about the cow killings and first murder of a Russian mob thug,too.

Enjoyed this book so much, I bought Rocket Boys and the October Skies DVD, and more books by Homer Hickam Jr. Will review. The Dinosaur Hunter, a great action packed novel with a little Paleontology to learn too! 5 stars

Forget about "Mama Grizzlies" - it's Mama T-Rex who really rules! I just finished Homer Hickam's "The Dinosaur Hunter," and found the book as exciting and rewarding as I hoped it would be. With this novel Hickam, who in past lives has - among numerous other occupations - trained NASA astronauts how to scuba, and has written about going Back to the Moon: A Novel - has traded his diving flippers for cowboy boots, and deep space for "deep time." In addition, and not surprisingly, Hickam proves to be as skillful at portraying the world of dino-diggers in Montana as he is taking us into the coal mines of West Virginia. A sort of comic mystery, thriller, action-love story, the novel moves along at a quick-fire pace that kept me engrossed from beginning to end. Hickam also creates a cadre of characters that are as layered and diverse as the geologic strata where the novel is set. There is Pick, the paleontologist who moves from the Cretaceous through the Quatenary periods with ease, but can't seem to find his way back to camp; Ray and Amelia, the squabbling teenagers-in-love; Brian and Philip, the Green Planet brothers who learn to love the earth in a way they didn't think possible; Cade, the Hollywood porn-producer cum nouveau-riche rancher; Toby, the Hawaiian-shirt-wearing Russian mobster; and the protagonist, Mike - the ex-LA detective turned ranch manager, who doesn't have a clue when it comes to women. And what women! I've not met such capable and courageous, independent and intense, resourceful and resilient, women since Ellen Ripley, especially Jeanette, owner of the Square C ranch where Mike works. The strong, silent type; when she does talk, you know she means it. In fact, all the heroes of the story, based on people Hickam came to know and admire while researching the novel, are as tough and tenacious as the Montana they are trying to measure up to. My only beef? The novel is too short! In the words of Oliver Twist: "More, please!"

I love Homer's books

I love Homer's books. I began buying and reading his books because my husband and I both graduated from Big Creek High School (that's the school in the Rocket Boys book/October Sky movie) just ahead of him, then I continued to buy them because they are such excellent reads. Of course our favorites are that trilogy. Sure wish they'd make a movie of The Coalwood Way. His books make such excellent gifts. Back to The Dinosaur Hunter, while enjoying a unique story, upon finishing the book you find you have learned so much about paleontology, bone digs and preservation without realizing it while you were reading the book. It is wonderful when an author can teach through an entertaining work of fiction. This is a book you'll not easily put down once you've started it.

Valuing Difference, Fitting In, Standing Up

Embarrassed by his appearance, Bob, the gangly main character of Bob the Artist by Marion Deuchars strives to fit in with his short-legged peers. He tries several approaches to alter his appearance: exercise, diet, and costume. Still he peers continue to tease him. Fitting in is exhausting work.To escape his peers' relentless teasing, Bob roams the neighborhood alone.

Until... he wanders into an art museum. Inspiration strikes. Convinced that this camouflage will distract the other birds and end the bullying he decides to transform his lovely red beak into works of art that honor the famous artists featured in the museum.

Bob discovers he has a talent for art. (Kids won't even realize that they're receiving an art history lesson as a bonus!) Proud of his talent, he comes to realize he no longer cares about the rude taunts. He's happy with himself.

This delightful book entertains and makes its point so well. Young readers will understand two things. First, they can--and should--choose kindness and inclusivity. Second, they need to value their own talents and gifts. This must be done without a sense of superiority but simply as affirming everyone has value.

As a former Elementary School Counselor I was constantly looking for books to read to my students, especially those with low self-esteem, being bullied, or depressed, etc. I looked for books with an uplifting message about being different, strong and overcoming. Alas, I am retired now but, this book fits the bill. I bought it to read to my Grandson so he will be able to understand there is nothing wrong with being different and he will see the positive in all.

push based for automatic browser updating

The key idea of BAM is that the user, who might be an executive or manager, can via her browser get automatic updates of analysis of real time changes to an underlying Oracle 11g database. Push based, instead of her having to intermittently refresh the browser to see any changes, which is pull based.

But be aware that this book is for the programmer, not for that executive. It describes at the system level what is happening to make this possible. The architecture diagram on page 13 of chapter 1 is useful in keeping all this clear in the big picture.

Active Studio could be the key component for you. It lets you design a report page, complete with various types of graphs that summarise results drawn from the database. The Service Oriented Architecture [SOA] is the building block approach taken. The text has an example that uses Business Process Execution Language [BPEL] that makes changes and populates data objects with these changes and pushes these downstream to another module.

There are numerous options for configuring the BAM reports. A nice graphical feature is a custom gauge that really is just a glorified progress bar. Now it looks like an old fashioned analog hardward gauge. Discerning readers will probably not care much. But maybe it can spruce up your reports to non-technical executives.

Another nice feature of BAM is the built in means to do testing of your Active Data setup. Including under normal and heavy load conditions. Good that the BAM developers made this available.

Good book on Fusion BAM 11g

Oracle BAM 11gR1 Handbook talks about the subject in very concise and efficient manner. Pete has assumed that reader of this book will be having basic knowledge of Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g and SOA Suite in particular which is fair.

First chapter touches the architectural aspects but literally it touches. If book has given the deep dive that might have added more value to it. Book should have covered data model of BAM in detail.

Book focuses on hands on and how which is good for beginners but experienced are also interested in why as well.

Book is helpful in understanding of features of Oracle BAM 11g. Chapters on testing and High Availability cover the topics which will help many readers.

Excellent Book for learning Oracle BAM 11g

As a SOA architect this book written by Pete Wang is an excellent way to understand the key features of Oracle BAM with a deep dive and hands-on experience.

Two of the best chapters were the HA configuration and building ADF based reports. The high availability chapter is vital since most organizations want an understanding of how their implementation can be available all the time.

This book is laid out perfectly for anyone who wants to learn the technical aspects of Oracle BAM 11g. I'm a firm believer in learning with hands-on experience. Though code in the book is a bit over the place it gives the reader enough information to understand the key concepts and technical aspects of BAM.

I recommend this book to anyone working with Oracle BAM or even Oracle SOA Suite as BAM can be leveraged and integrated well with it to provide real-time reports for key business people.
