With these fundamentals in mind, Conscience of the Nation examines Egyptian literary production over the past fifty years, surveying works by established writers, as well as those of dozens of other authors who are celebrated in Egypt but whose writings are largely unknown to the foreign reader. Novelists and poets, scriptwriters and playwrights, critics and journalists all have battled with and tried to resolve the tensions inherent in the conflicting forces of self and society.

Measurement and analysis are integral components of network research. As a result, statistical methods play a critical role in network analysis. This book is the first of its kind in network research. It can be used as a stand-alone resource in which multiple R packages are used to illustrate how to conduct a wide range of network analyses, from basic manipulation and visualization, to summary and characterization, to modeling of network data. The central package is igraph, which provides extensive capabilities for studying network graphs in R. This text builds on Eric D. Kolaczyk’s book Statistical Analysis of Network Data (Springer, 2009).

About the Author

Eric D. Kolaczyk�is a professor of statistics, and Director of the Program in Statistics, in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Boston University, where he also is an affiliated faculty member in the�Bioinformatics Program,� the Division of Systems�Engineering, and the Program in Computational Neuroscience. His publications on network-based topics, beyond the development of statistical methodology and theory, include�work on applications�ranging from the detection of anomalous traffic patterns in computer networks to the prediction of biological function in networks of interacting proteins�to the characterization of influence of groups of actors in social networks. He is an elected fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA) and an elected senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).�

G�bor Cs�rdi is a research associate at the Department of Statistics at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from E�tv�s University, Hungary. His research includes applications of network analysis in biology and social sciences, bioinformatics and computational biology, and graph algorithms. He created the igraph software package in 2005 and has been one of the lead developers since then.

Good introduction to igraph

This is a great introduction to the 'igraph' package for R. Someone who is just a beginner in using R can probably use this book, but it's probably best to have already been using it for some time. The 'igraph' package is pretty extensive, but this book will give you enough tools to explore what else the package can do.

It also covers the basics of doing network analyses. It doesn't go very deeply into any topics, really (nor does it have proofs or much theory), so it is best used in conjunction with (or perhaps after reading) Kolaczyk's other text (http://amzn.com/038788145X ). I used this after having used the other text.

About the Author
Jim L. Bowyer is Director, Responsible Materials Program, Dovetail Partners, Inc and Professor Emeritus, University of Minnesota, Department of Bioproducts and Bioprocess Engineering. Bowyer is a Fellow of the International Academy of Wood Science, Chairman of the Tropical Forest Foundation, and Past President of both the Forest Products Society and Society of Wood Science and Technology.

Rubin Shmulsky is an Associate Professor in the Forest Products Department at Mississippi State University, a consulting wood technologist, and a former Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota.

John G. Haygreen is a retired Professor of Forest Products, who served on the faculties of Colorado State University, the University of Minnesota, and Auburn University. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Wood Science, and Past President of both the Forest Products Society and Society of Wood Science and Technology.

Dr. Carl Blevins is the evil genius behind their powers, but approaching him may be somewhat treacherous. The fact that the man has reinvented himself with a new name, face and business leads them to believe he is not yet ready to be discovered.

While they search for more clues to their identity, they find Jade, another teenager just like them. She shares the same birthday, and has gone through the painful transformation process, but has no evidence of an ability. Just one more mystery the team will have to solve as they work their way towards the answers they seek.

Awesome action & Fun to read!

I loved the 1st book, which as of 7/22/11, was a Free download...so much so that I had to download this book, which is a great price at only 2.99. I love the series which reminds me of super heroes comic books but it is a fast paced action / sci-fi adventure. I'm looking forward to more books in this series. Hat's off to Kim Jewell for an excellent book for young & old alike.
It's cool that the group bonded and seem to be all heroes and that none of them used their extraordinary abilities to become juvenile delinquents...Sam does cheat on a test but none seemed to want to use their powers to take advantage of people. A refreshing story without the usual profanities.

Engaging, sophisticated writing with positive messages for young people

Set against the corrupting power of medical and scientific knowledge when used for personal, egotistic gain, is the second in Kim Jewell's "Justice Series", in which the themes of friendship, the love of family, and a desire to do good in the world are all played out via the author's creative imagination. The teens in "Brute Justice" continue to use their superhero powers in the interest of mankind and in the interest of finding the whole truth regarding their births. They reveal their abilities to their respective parents, and come to information regarding other teens who were born on the same day as they were. The addition of Jade as one of those teens was engaging and the mystery surrounding her "pregnancy" served to keep the reader's attention, casting suspicion at once on Dr. Crain. Blevins' new identity is confirmed as the teens make progress in their quest to track him down, at the end, being offered assistance by the FBI in that search. The skills and teamwork of the teens regarding the tragedy occurring at the hospital were impressive. What was memorable was the fact that the family relationships between the teens and their parents were healthy, caring ones, and the camaraderie between the teens themselves a very positive example for YA and other audiences reading this book. The superhero/scifi elements were quite stimulating and exciting, but one also had a sense of the everyday issues affecting teenagers in ordinary living and that sense of realism also contributed to making this a very unique, enjoyable book. I look forward to reading more of this series by Ms. Jewell.

Unexpectedly Good!

I was intrigued by Invisible Justice and looked forward to reading the second in the series. I didn't expect much, thinking that the series would be geared mostly for young teen readers. To my surprise, I found that I couldn't put these books down! This second book especially seems to have moved more to an adult feel that I would expect when discussing the thoughts and feelings of 17 year olds. It was not as predictable as the first, and toward the end there were several plot twists that I didn't see coming. Can't wait for the next one!

About the Author

David Burgos is Vice President of Millward Brown and the head of the Multicultural Practice at Millward Brown, one of the world’s leading market research agencies. He is an industry expert in market segmentation, new product development, and brand and communications research across the U.S. and Latin America. David is the Co-Chair of the Advertising Research Foundation's Multicultural Council and a past recipient of the ARF’s Great Mind Award for his contribution to the marketing research industry. A former professor, and co-author of the book, “Ciudad de los Reyes, de los Chavez, los Quispe," David speaks frequently about the changing face of multicultural markets at conferences and industry events. David holds an MBA from Esan University in Peru. He currently resides in the Chicago suburbs with his wife Adriana and two children, Lorenzo and Renata.

Easy read - current insights

This is a great 'crash course' on the state of multicultural marketing in the United States with a valuable snapshot of of international multicultural marketing as well. Great for anyone in the marketing world who realizes that straight translations and providing culturally relevent marketing efforts are not hitting the mark with the top three segments (Hispanic, African American, Asian). If you know you need to do something in this space and don't how, or if you're already doing it and you know you're not where you need to be, then read this book. I read it on the plane on a business trip. It sits on my desk at work in my collection of highly recommended books.

The real deal for understanding the new America

Burgos and Mobolade have nailed the most comprehensive, updated and seriously sourced approach to the new reality of unprecedented diversity in America. With no old preconceptions or easy recipes, they came up with a must read for anyone interested in intelligent targeting. And for the same token, they put together a very easy to read and entertaining book.
