An excellent book on both the history of philosophical idealism and ...

An excellent book on both the history of philosophical idealism and idealism as a living doctrine. It does important, and long overdue work on showing the unfair misunderstandings of idealism during the "revolt from idealism" in the Anglo-American philosophical world in the early XXth century. In many ways this was a revolt against a straw man by people who had not done their homework. I am working on Josiah Royce, and I would recommend this book to anyone with any kind of interest in idealism.

This book must be written for someone, a pure professional would be my guess. I have no formal education in philosophy; my bent went to science in my youth. Today, science appears to have tread past its purview, and my continual informal education defaults to philosophy. Philosophy is not easy, but it should be at least possible. The early part of this book is possible. I cannot say that about the last chapter. I had jumped ahead to see if the good guys win, but could not figure out a word of it. I will not be trying to fill in the blanks--there does not appear to be anything to fill in.
